Magazine 2020
169 2020 | Edition No. 23 | Virtual concerts became our reality this year and our music learners have mastered the art of performing for the camera. Our musicians have continued to perform in our weekly virtual Assembly and we are delighted at the progress that they made online and on their return to school, face to face too. We broadcast our annual Music Recital evening in May, and the programme included items from learners across all Preparatory grades. Our annual ‘Majors and Minors’ cross-faculty concert, was streamed in August and the event was well attended online. We were entertained by all the College Orchestras as well as many ensemble pieces including duets and trios. All learners have been exposed to the creativity of ‘GarageBand’, so even those who do not participate in individual lessons have become more knowledgeable about instruments, rhythm and composition. Some of our learners participated in the virtual Trinity Music Examinations and we were very pleased with their results. We had many learners participating in the Western Cape Virtual Eisteddfod, which is a new Eisteddfod created to enable learners to still have the Eisteddfod experience, in a virtual setting. Both the Junior and Senior Orchestras were kept very busy learning new pieces throughout the year and we are very proud of their dedication to the group. Every performance, whether live or virtual, is an op- portunity for us to showcase the development and growth of our learners, helping them to build confi - dence and enhance their performance skills.
