156 | Edition No. 23 | 2020 PREPARATORY SPORT netball mini-cricket From a sporting perspec- tive it is fair to say that 2020 has been a year like no other. Although sport was not the only area of our lives that was affected by the national lockdown, it is still strange to think that we only had three months of competitive activities throughout the year! It was a year that started with high expectations and an abundance of opportunities. Our summer sports hit the ground running and as we were ready to take that momentum into the Second Quarter, our systems ground to a halt. For most SouthAfricans, summer is about being outside in the sunshine and around the swimming pool. At the Preparatory, we are no different. During the Summer Quarter we saw our pool activities flourish and the cricket fields were a hive of activity. Water Polo has slowly become a favourite amongst our learners, with the Preparatory fac- ulty being able to field two boys and girls teams on a weekly basis. Being exposed regularly to a high level of competition has given our water polo play- ers a far better understand- ing of what is needed in the pool, and our players’ skills levels have come on in leaps and bounds over the past year. Once we are allowed to dive back into the pool, we look forward to seeing our players continue their development. The Preparatory faculty was fortu- nate to be invited to three Swim- ming Galas during the Summer Quarter. Our swimmers were pro- vided with the perfect opportunity to test their skills against swimmers from the neighbouring schools. The swimming squad was able to win one of the three galas and put in a very good effort in defending their Storzner Cup crown at Mil- nerton Primary School in March. The Senior Preparatory Interhouse Gala was very well attended by the learners. It was a competitive morn- ball skills swimming
