155 2020 | Edition No. 23 | book club ___________________ Every good book opens up new dimensions of thoughts for the reader. When you read a book, you somehow try to connect the events, emotions, experiences and characters in the books with yourself. This not only keeps you engrossed in the book but it also makes you realise how you would react and feel to those situations that have not yet occurred in your life. This was a reality for the Book Club when we read, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. There was so much to take away from the story of Santiago, the shepherd boy, on a journey to realise his personal legend. This was indeed a worthwhile read and we were glad to have picked it up. Colin Zinyeredzi Resource Centre Manager entrepreneur’s club ___________________ During the first quarter, the Club met every Friday during Util - ity. Young, like-minded entrepreneurially-inclined individuals shared ideas and trends with a weekly update on the Club’s Google Class- room under the topic Business Ideas Zone. Various activities, such as ‘No-or-Go’ and Business Plans were undertaken with great en- thusiasm by club members, many of whom are only in Grades 7 or 8. Even though the plans for guest speakers and a competition launch were shelved due to the lockdown, the Club members, like true entrepreneurs, continued to explore ideas and opportunities throughout the year. culinary club ___________________ Culinary Club is a very popular club with GET learners. Members meet once a week when they have the opportunity to cook some- thing delicious to eat. They alternate between sweet and savoury dishes and at the same time are developing their culinary skills. This is always the highlight of the week as the young chefs have that sat- isfaction of having created something perfectly yummy and edible, knowing that they can make it again for their families at home! Even during Lockdown, the chefs had virtual lessons and the family could be used as tasters and guinea pigs. Lucette Torbet sound engineering and tech suppor t ___________________ Sound Engineering and Tech support form an integral part of assemblies, performances, musical concerts and festivals and due to Lockdown the creation of Virtual Concerts. Our latest project was the release of an album called “Mandela Day Celebra- tion 2020” on iTunes (and several other digital platforms), which features many students from Parklands College. It has been an amazing experience, and we cannot wait to see what is in store in the near future. Max van Rooyen Chairperson Sound Engineering Robotics Culinary Club
