150 | Edition No. 23 | 2020 robotics club ___________________ In February, we participated in the First Tech scrimmage and later participated in the Na- tional FIRST tech challenge where we won two awards, namely the Winning Alliance award and the Motivate award. During March we had an online virtual ro- botics club where we created our robots using Lego Digital Designer. Later we were able to export them to the virtual robotics toolkit where we could program them and run them on a simulated WRO competition environment. During the month ofAugust we participated in theWorld Robotic Olympiad regional competi- tion and 3 of our teams qualified for the national leg of the competition. At the national competition our teams did very well, one of them placed second on the Gen II soccer. Robodog won all their Robo soccer matches and lost the final by a small margin. In October, we presented Robotics at the Open Design Afrika festival, where our leaners taught learners from around Cape Town basic robotics programming. We participated in First Lego League and one of our teams won the Core Values award. This award recognises a team that excels across the Inspira- tion, Teamwork and Gracious Professionalism cat- egories. This team displays extraordinary enthu- siasm and spirit, knows they can accomplish more together than they could as individuals, and shows each other and other teams respect at all times. It is kept interactive and explora- tory, while using Apple’s App De- velopment with Swift curriculum for a foundational structure. Our Mobile Application Develop- ment incubator teaches learners how to research and identify a need in a market; come up with ideas for an app to address the need; develop the app; release the app on the Apple application store and finally to market it.
