Magazine 2019
84 Our motto for 2019 was ‘When uniqueness unites, we are unstoppable’. This motto was created by the Matric class and we wanted to focus on the importance of unity at Parklands College. When you have a school that is so diverse with students from many different backgrounds, with unique personalities and abilities, you lose out on so much if you do not find a way to incorporate everyone into your plan. Inclusivity was going to be at the heart of everything we wanted to achieve in 2019. A high value was placed on the contributions that everybody made so that the success we achieved could be attributed to the united efforts of the whole school. Being a part of the executive team meant that we had to do a lot of planning and organisation of events like the Matric Variety Show, which was a resounding success. We attended the Grade R Graduation and Grade 000 and 00 concerts. These were most enjoyable experiences that assured us that the future of Parklands College is bright. Being able to speak at the new learner orientation and hosting assemblies was one of the highlights of the year. It was an honour and a privilege to be a part of the executive team and we made many unforgettable memories. At the start of our time in office, we were a bit unsure of what to expect and experienced mixed emotions of excitement and fear. However, fortunately for the prefect committee, we got to enjoy our prefect indaba early in our term of office. We spent the weekend planning, organising and most importantly developing our core values for the year. These values helped guide and assist us in every decision we made and truly led us to success. The strides we made in the College this year would not have been possible without the united efforts of the whole school. On behalf of the executive team and the 2019 prefects, we would like to thank Mrs Roth, Mr Roth and the board of directors for allowing us this great honour. We would also like to extend an enormous thank you to Mrs Steyn, Mrs Strauss and Mrs Pillay for being our constant support and guidance. Thank you for this incredible experience. Michaela Bezer and Dumiso Maqeda 2019 has been an extremely engaging year filled with memories and lessons we will never forget. We feel honoured to have been part of this diligent team and are immensely thankful to the College for giving us this opportunity to lead and grow. We trust that Parklands will continue to instil a culture of excellence in all that it does and cannot wait to see what the future holds! To our fellow learners, thank you for entrusting us with these responsibilities and supporting us in our endeavours. We wish you all joy and success. Remember to work hard to achieve your goals but also to have fun and truly experience and cherish your time in school. These days are numbered and balance is key. Live a little - high school is over before you know it! To the prefect body of 2020: Good luck! Your term in office will be over in a flash, but it will be immensely rewarding. Ensure that whatever you do, you lead with a servant heart and integrity. If nothing else, remember this: Teamwork makes the dream work and Google Calendar and Docs are your friends! Support each other and all will work out well. In conclusion, leaving the College leaves a bitter-sweet feeling in our hearts. but we are excited for the future. To express our gratitude, the Class of 2019 gifted a set of marimbas to the College and donated R5 000 to our charity of choice, Luthando Orphanage in Dunoon and Nobuntu Early Childhood Centre in Atlantis. We hope to go out into the world, make a difference and make Parklands College proud. Our blood will always run blue.
