It has been another busy year on the Junior Preparatory sport fields, as our teams have taken part in countless weekly fixtures and numerous weekend festivals, giving our learners maximum exposure to the different sports. One of the highlights of the year was being able to take our Girls’ U/9 Mini Cricket team to participate in the annualWestern Province Mini Cricket Festival at Newlands Cricket Ground.The girls were able to play their matches on the outfield at Newlands and the day was topped off with an impromptu match against theWP Ladies. “Sport is not just a pleasant way of passing an afternoon or morning training session at school. Sport is a passion! This commitment to their school, their team and their own development is a vital life skill, leading to the devel - opment of leadership, team building and camaraderie. A truly holistic education does not only focus on aca- demic success, but must en- compass culture and sport as well as allowing every learner to find his or her strengths and build on them, while acknowledging their weaknesses and strengthen- ing them.” As the year unfolds, it is encouraging to see the development of skills that our Grade 1-3 learn - ers demonstrate on the sports field.The Grade 1 learners grow in confidence of their ability and understanding of the different sporting codes. In Grade 2 you start to see the learners taking control of the different skill sets needed in each code. Our Grade 3 learners have learned how SPORT PREPARATORY FACULTY NETBALL Parklands College focuses on an integrat- ed netball programme that caters for all. Netball is a very popular sport amongst the girls and our numbers keep growing. The depth of our Netball certainly con- tributes to the overall netball successes. We aim to compliment, encourage and develop mass participation which entails learners participating at school level, inter-school activities, netball festivals and most importantly to enjoy the game and have fun! Development is most certainly one of our major focus areas. Parklands continued to look for additional netball opportunities to be involved in various Saturday Netball Festivals.The U/11 & U/12 Parklands Netball girls were once again invited to attend the local Netball district Netball trials for the selection of theWestern Cape and Cape Town Primary Schools Netball teams.
