Down the line, U/9 - Soccer SOCCER Soccer at Parklands Preparatory experienced an unusual change during the 2018 season as all outdoor soccer matches and leagues were suspended due to the drought and resultant damage to fields. Parklands, however, created additional playing opportunities for our players by entering two teams per age group in the U/10 – U/12 five-a-side soccer league hosted on the Five-a-side artificial surfaces and courts at Hellenic Football Club. There were also opportunities for our B teams to experience and enjoy these facilities and match format as we arranged friendly matches with Curro Century City. This was a wonderful gesture as our soccer players had loads of fun while taking on a game with different challenges, rules and playing styles on a smaller playing enclosure with fewer players involved. It certainly proved to provide a valuable platform for players to improve fitness levels, intensity, techniques and skills. CROSS COUNTRY AND RUNNING CLUB The Autumn and Winter Quarter proved to be an exciting time for the Cross Country participants as they enjoyed the challenges of the weekly Cross Country meetings where large fields of participants from schools in the greater Cape Town area take to the running track to compete for Top 10 finishes. The learners truly showed their dedication and commitment to Cross Country and improved their overall running skills in endurance, fitness, strength and speed. Great running camaraderie and friendship bonds formed throughout the running season. Furthermore, the learners have wholeheartedly enjoyed the events, which were mostly held in the Durbanville region at Eversdal, Trimpark. They competed on various terrains, proving to run successfully over slopes, hills and uneven turf. Congratulations to all our athletes who participated and finished their races. Well done to those athletes who recorded Top 10 finishes. 71. parklands.co.za
