Magazine 2018
RUGBY Rugby preparations started with a pre-season training programme at the beginning of the Summer Quarter of 2018. The pre-season rugby programme focussed on perfecting the skills, speed and strength, techniques and vision of our rugby players, while introducing our younger players to the intricacies of this much loved game. The Parklands Rugby programme offers numerous opportunities for growth as the season runs over an extended period of over two and a half months consisting of weekly league rugby matches as well as occasional Saturday Festivals rugby and traditional schools’ rugby, allowing our rugby boys to participate in two rugby fixtures a week. Coaching sessions take place twice a week and are focused mainly on skills and techniques with further development in many aspects of the game, positional play and set plays which allow our learners the opportunity to learn and improve as they showcase an exciting brand of running rugby. The main focus remains on enjoyment and after all just playing the game without added pressures. NETBALL Parklands College focuses on an integrated netball programme that caters for all. We aim to compliment, encourage and develop mass participation which entails learners participating at school level, inter school activities, netball festivals and most importantly, to enjoy the game and have fun! We were delighted with the number of Grade 1 and 2 girls who embarked on learning this wonderful team sport. Development is most certainly one of our major focus areas. We have been very privileged this year to have three very well qualified and experienced netball coaches. Parklands also participated in various Saturday Netball Festivals where the aim is to broaden our relations with schools who we do not normally play against. This year saw our Netball programme grow and taken to the next level as we fielded two teams in every age group. The U/11 and U/12 Parklands Netball girls were once again invited to attend the local Netball district trials for the selection of the Western Cape and Cape Town Primary Schools Netball teams. Jean-Michelle De Blanche performed extremely well and she was selected for the U/12 Cape Town Primary Schools Inter District Netball team. TENNIS The new young Parklands Tennis squad team members are in the re-building phase and growing process of learning their skill sets and perfecting tennis techniques. Our 2018 Tennis squad consisted of a majority of Grade 4 and a few Grade 5 players after the entire 2017 squad consisting of Grade 6 players all moved on to the College. Our experienced tennis coaching team has been hard at work preparing these young tennis stars to ultimately build a competitive tennis squad as they mature. While our teams strive to continually improve their techniques and individual playing levels, much focus is also placed on applying a more tactical approach to their game and matches. A challenge system through tennis trials and play-off matches offers the opportunity for more tennis players to participate and work their way up the tennis ladder. 22 24 70. 21st Edition
