SOCCER TOUR U/12 CAMP DISCOVERY 2018 Investing time and energy in our youth, whether it’s on the sports field or in the classroom, has been a key philosophy of Parklands College. With this in mind, Parklands College toured with an U/12 A soccer team to the Camp Discovery Preparatory Schools Soccer Tournament, which is a prestigious event hosted within a Big Five Game Reserve in the Northern Province. This year was the 10th anniversary of this high-profile event which accommodated twenty-eight schools, consisting of 748 boys from 56 teams from all over the country as well as two international teams, one from Zambia and the other from Swaziland. What more could one ask for than playing the game you love in the bush amongst the BIG FIVE! The boys woke to the sounds of roaring lions and the crackling of branches under elephant footsteps. The bushbabies made frequent visits to the boys’ residence throughout the wild African nights. The boys were very excited as they approached Camp Discovery on the first day, witnessing the flat, green and perfect playing surface. They began their morning with a friendly fixture against Highbury Preparatory. Our team played very well with the game ending in a 3 — 1 victory. The official football fiesta began as our first fixture kicked off against Charterhouse where our boys successfully netted 4 goals to end the game with a superb victory 4 — 0. Our fearless boys then took on Akasia Primary. Akasia Primary netted 2 late goals in the last few minutes ending the game 0 — 2. With two games down and one to come on day 1 the boys were fired up and eager to impress. It was after 18 minutes that they slotted an absolute beauty of a goal in the remaining seconds of the match to end the day with a great 1-0 victory over Pure Hope Primary. Our boys competed extremely well as they narrowly went down in the second day’s pool stages. The first Parklands soccer tour ended on a high note as our team defeated Highbury Preparatory in their last play-off match and they delivered a brave performance against Penryn Preparatory in their last encounter of the tournament. Liam Jainundh was named as the Most Valuable Player for Parklands at the tournament. 7 8 9 10 11 67. parklands.co.za
