Outreach Sandown this year has seen us donate R 24 000 to SANCCOB from money raised during our annual Christmas Wrapping project at Bayside Mall. A collection of Easter Eggs was held, which benefitted 30 charities. For Valentine’s Day, learners travelled to Huis Zonnekus to share a chocolate, conversation and hug with the residents. We also supported other schools with their fundraising, such as our participation in Milnerton High School’s ‘Food for Thought’ walk. Our Interact Club hosted the West Coast Interact Camp which provided leadership and teamwork training to students from many Interact clubs in the area. Our learners took part in Slipper Day to raise funds for Reach for a Dream. The Interact Committee once again ran a stall at the One-to- One Fete for the Mentally Challenged where they spent the day playing games and handing out gifts. In September we donated funds to Cancervive and arranged a coin placing ceremony on Sunflower Day. Thanks to the sale of TOPES FOR HOPE and a well-supported cake sale, we donated generously to the Sunflower Foundation. Organisations that benefitted this past year: SALT Table View, Peter Pan Centre, Alfred Turner Home, Cheshire Home, Table View Angels, Fallen Angels, 6 Dunoon Crèches, CPOA Pinelands, Kendrik House, Protea Home For The Aged, Al Noor Orphanage, The Haven Old Age Home, FDSA Velddrif, St Anne’s Home, Zonnebloem ACVV, Nazareth House, Huis Yzterplaat (Ria Abel), Sea Park Melkbosstrand, Huis Groeneweide, SAPS Goodwood, SAPS Pinelands, SAPS Table View, SAPS Milnerton, SAPS Velddrif, SANCCOB, Sunflower Fund and Reach for a Dream. Winter can be a particularly cold season and donations of soup sachets, warm clothes and blankets were much appreciated in the local community. Our furry friends at the SPCA also benefitted from the food collection that we held this year. Through the initiative of a learner, we also supported SANCCOB by decorating reusable inserts for their penguin rescue boxes. An exciting opportunity arose to support the National Institute for the Deaf. Each child was given a template of a cube that folded into a nifty box, allowing them to collect small change to help create change in the lives of those affected by being deaf. This opportunity was embraced with enthusiasm and children brought back boxes filled to the brim with change. Anne Frank’s quote is indeed an important reminder as we conclude this year knowing that we have helped so many and grown in our capacity as compassionate citizens, committed to reaching outwards to others in need.
