Mindful Living MakerLife Lab Assistants Lab Assistants This year the lab assistants have had so much fun exploring our laboratories beyond the classroom. After they had written and passed their Lab safety test we explored the different substances in the lab and their pH levels. We even went on to testing the pH levels of different substances found around the household. Then we experimented with how to make invisible ink that can be made visible by applying heat on the paper. It has been an exciting journey and we look forward to many more fun science experiments. Bonolo Duma Table Tennis Table Tennis has become very popular amongst both the junior and senior learners at the College. We have been so overwhelmed by the numbers, that we have had to make table tennis available to be played during every utility slot. Furthermore, the learners even play during their breaks. This year we have set up two table tennis boards (to meet the demand) and allocated one board for the juniors and one board for the seniors. By doing this we were able to ensure a good level of compe- tition at a junior and senior level. The level of table tennis has improved in leaps and bounds if we compare it to last year. It will be exciting to see new rivalries formed and old ones renewed. We are sure many learners will be practising during their holidays. Rodwin De Klerk Mindful Living Mindful Living started this year and has been an exciting adventure for many. We have learnt so much from each other and it has been wonderful meeting like minded people. We shared recipes with each other and had meaningful discussions about how to live life to the fullest without harming animals. We are more informed about ethical matters and are striving to make a difference in animal welfare. Ivana Chetty MakerLife Makerspaces - sometimes also referred to as hackerspaces, ‘hackspaces’, and fablabs - are creative, DIY spaces where learners can gather to create, invent and learn. Learners get the opportunity to explore the use of 3D printing, software, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools. This is an exciting place and space for learners to visualise, idealise and be creative. In MakerLife Club this year, learners have just been experimenting with 3D printing. They have learned about the elements and principles of design and their own designs got printed with the 3D printer. Carike Cass 163. parklands.co.za
