Application Development Sound Engineering Sound Engineering Sound engineering affords learners the opportunity to begin to experience the exciting world of audio production on various levels. This year the Grade 7s have been introduced to the basic principles of sound and have been working together in groups to create their own music tracks in GarageBand, as well as developing their recording skills in producing a mock radio advertisement. The Grade 9s and 10s are pursuing a certification through Audio Production Academy over the course of the year and will walk away with the fundamental skills to record and produce audio across various disciplines. The learners who have graduated with the certificate in years past pursue their own productions. All of these learners can be found in the studio at least once a week for their respective classes and on occasions outside of the utility lesson as they use the space and resources for both school and personal projects. This is a discipline that teaches learners critical thinking skills and the ability to work under pressure, and serves as a foundation for any who choose to pursue careers in audio production and related technical and creative fields. Cameron Holly Exclamation Exclamation is the Christian society of Parklands College. Under the leadership of our chairperson, Megan Bremner, the club has grown substantially this year and has welcomed many new visitors from across the grades. The learners have particularly enjoyed having various youth leaders from different churches in the surrounding areas come to share at our weekly meetings. Outside of school, we also take part in regular events with Christian groups from neighbouring schools. The annual inter school Christian camp is fast becoming a highlight on the Exclamation calendar as learners look forward to coming together to unwind, have some fun and grow in their relationship with God and each other. Michelle Stuckie Application Development Programming has arguably become one of the most sought-after skill sets of today. The Application Development club introduces learners to the world of programming and the building of applications (“apps”) for mobile devices. The main development platform that the club focuses on is the iOS environment and the building of apps entails working in teams, building working programs and developing communication and problem-solving skills. Learners study Swift programming by means of the official App Development Using Swift curriculum by Apple, while building small and simple programs to get used to algorithmic thinking and coding conventions. The club strives to act as a conduit for the development of apps that are relevant and make a difference in society, so that “real-world” experience is accumulated. Currently, two of our senior members are building frameworks and coding back-end operations for a project that is to be collaborated on at a later stage when our junior members have acquired the necessary skills. Marcel Erasmus Animation 2018 has been a very productive year for both Junior and Senior Animation. The junior animators focused on two dimensional animation using a variety of iPad applications. Many of the learners produced action packed and surprisingly humorous animations. The senior animators continued with their original short movie. The movie has an original script, characters and setting. This project has been in progress for more than a year and it promises to be an entertaining one. The Animation club is a true success due to the time, dedication and talent of each of the learners. Chaise Frederick 160. 21st Edition
