Learners at the College have the privilege of selecting from a wide variety of clubs and societies to attend during a designated time during the school day. Exposure to some of these activities will stand them in good stead in their further studies, but also simply enrich their lives. Green Solutions Club Green Solutions Club Green Solutions Club is dedicated to creating awareness of our environment by finding appropriate solutions to eco problems present in our immediate day to day lives. The club is open to all; whether as a member of the organising committee or by taking part in our competitions, clean-ups and other activities and events. Children who have a question, want to get involved in saving our environment one idea at a time, or just have something environmental that they wish to discuss, all have a place in Green Solutions Club. Through giving children opportunities to interact and help our environment with each event arranged, we are allowing and growing responsible individuals who care about how they leave the environment and with a desire to do and learn more about it. Examples of such activities and events include the Milnerton Beach Clean-up and Beach Day as well as the Speak Green audio awareness competition with prizes sponsored by the Two Oceans Aquarium. The club regularly gives speeches and shows videos in Friday assemblies to increase awareness of current environmental news and important days, such as decreasing pollution and World Lion Day. The club’s organising committee meets on a weekly basis during Thursday utilities to arrange and discuss possible and upcoming events. Ivana Schäfer Peer Support The Peer Support group consists of FET learners who are elected through a selection process and take part in a 12 week training programme. This year the course was run by Devon Hoole, who is a psychology student from Cornerstone Institute and completed his registered counsellor internship at the College. The weekly workshops are designed to cover three important aspects of peer support: personal growth, counselling skills and mentorship. Once qualified, learners are then able to put their new skills into practice, offering ongoing support to their peers and others who are in need of a listening ear. Michelle Stuckie Technovation Girls for a Change Every year, Technovation invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology.
