1st Team Predators reflecting after their home match PAST LEARNER SPORTING UPDATES Past learner, Laura Wolvaardt, continued to make us proud throughout the year, as she represented South Africa in Women’s Cricket. Laura won the prestigious One Day Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year Awards at the 2018 Cricket South Africa awards evening. A number of our past rugby players attended various academies across the country, while Ian Kitwanga was selected for the 1st South African Rugby Academy where the top 30 players in South Africa are coached by the best coaches, with the hope that these boys will make it all the way to the senior team. Katie Poluta (Class of 2015) was selected to represent South Africa in the Fed Cup this year. She is currently playing on the US tennis circuit. IN CONCLUSION This year has been a tremendous success, not only in results but more importantly in the level of passion and commitment towards sport at the College. The Sports Department aims to encourage consistent participation in physical activity, with the end result being a happy, healthier and more mentally fit learner. This year we prioritised three areas of development: House Leader training, appointing quality coaches and getting our staff appointed to Western Province teams. We have succeeded on all fronts and look forward to 2019 to see even greater results in these areas. Lastly, but definitely most importantly, we thank the coaching staff, managers, parents and players for their dedication and effort to help take sport to a new level this year. 153. parklands.co.za
