Magazine 2018
2018 has been a most memorable year for Drama at the College. The Trinity results for 2017 were impressive and the standard high. The department has seen a growth in numbers and the new energy this has brought has allowed us to tackle many new projects and initiatives. Every learner in the FET phase was entered into the Cape Town and Tygerberg International Eisteddfods, where our talented learners won categories and impressed the adjudicators. In April the Grade 11 learners performed at the annual Shakespeare Safari raising the bar for next year’s Grade 11s as they acted out extracts from tragedies and comedies alike. May was a merry month with the FET Drama learners descending onto the stage at The Baxter to close the final night of the Shakespeare School Festival, stealing the show with their outstanding performance of Twelfth Night. The Matric Drama learners, Murray Fogg, Meritxell Cilliers and Ross Sinclair, no strangers to the Parklands stage, entertained the school with their award-winning rendition of Paul Slabolepsky’s Under The Oaks in their swan song performance. These three young people have set a great example to their peers of how hard work and dedication pays off. Thank you for all of the laughs and we wish you well with your Drama studies next year. The best way to learn about performance is to watch live performance and many opportunities were afforded the Drama learners this year with an emphasis on attending South African theatre. There were outings to Mike Van Graan’s play When Swallows Cry, Athol Fugard’s The Road To Mecca with Sandra Prinsloo and Marius Weyers and the lavish Shakespeare in Love at the Fugard Theatre in August. There were a number of new in-house workshops offered this year such as Theatrical Make-up, Mask Making, Screen Acting in preparation for participation in the 48 hour project and Radio Drama in preparation for the Derby Day collaboration with Reddam House. Scenes from Twelfth Night 130. 21st Edition
