Magazine 2017

May was a hugely creative month at the College. We saw our musicians in action at the Minors and Majors concert; we were hugely entertained at the House Plays and the matrics gave unforgettable performances at the Matric Variety Show. The EGD learners earned a 2nd place in the SAICE Model Bridge Building Competition. Corné Krige, former Springbok Rugby Captain, visited our assembly to inspire our sports team and to present Laura Wolvaardt with a commemorative bat for being selected for the national women’s cricket side. Mid-year examinations commenced in June , but individual Parkies continued to represent us nationally and internationally. Stephan Cilliers won a scholarship to Apple’s World Wide Developments Conference, Emile Tredoux represented South Africa at the Pan Olympic Mathematics Olympiad, Ian Kitwanga was capped for the WP Craven Week team and Laura Wolvaardt left for the Women’s Cricket World Cup in England. What an amazing month July was! Everyone could enjoy some kind of stay-over before getting back on the super train. A group of Parkies travelled to Thailand with World Challenge to do some outreach work. Around 150 learners rehearsed for Alice in Wonderland during the break and Laura and her Proteas team mates made us proud by reaching the semi-finals. And then it was the Matric Ball - an unforgettable highlight of the year. By August our super train was running full speed ahead with five amazing Alice in Wonderland performances, our first ever ParkFest which brought the whole Parklands family together and before we knew it, the matrics were celebrating their 40 Days! Majors and Minors Cross Faculty Music Concert - 4 May 2017 Ian Kitwanga (WP Craven Week), with Laura Wolvaardt (Women’s Cricket World Cup) and Emile Tredoux who represented SA at the Pan Olympic Mathematics Olympiad. 89 www.parklands.co.za
