SPORT Prefects in charge of Sport: Christine Luke & Ian Kitwanga On Monday, the 23rd January, the Sports Prefects started with the annual Inter-house Swimming Gala. The day was filled with exceptional racing and healthy competition between all the houses. The Inter-house Swimming Gala was a huge success and a brilliant way to begin 2017. Following the gala was the annual Inter-House Athletics Day. While the day was enjoyed by all, the Matrics expressed their enjoyment the most, through dance and pure enthusiasm, as they realized that it was their last athletics day of their school career. Parents and young siblings also enjoyed the event as they participated in cheering on the athletes. One thing about Parklands College, which I’m sure we can all agree on, is that there is always something happening. Whether it be organising a historic Science week or putting on an incredible school production, there is never a dull moment. Sport is no exception! The Summer Quarter ended with the annual Winter Sports Day, consisting of Soccer, Netball, Rugby and Hockey. In each sport, every house had the chance to play three matches, one against each opposing team. This gave the competitors a chance to showcase their sporting talents, as well as prove to the rest of the school which house is the best! One of the highlights proved to be the teachers vs. students Netball match, which put a smile on everyone's face and was a memorable way to conclude the event. Overall, the event proved to be a fun and exciting way to begin Winter sports at the College. Thank you to all the participants and spectators who made the day such a memorable occasion. More memorable moments include watching the Old Boys cricket and Water Polo teams compete against our own first teams in two exciting matches. Watching the past and present members of the Parklands Family come together, in good spirit, provided all the spectators with a morning filled with laughter and healthy competition. Throughout this year, in all areas of sport, the focal point has been to improve and the enjoyment of the game. The drive to help build sport at the College comes from our Sports Department - coaches and managers - who always aim to get the best out of all the players ensuring that they not only enjoy what they do but help them reach their full potential.
