Dance, drama, and music are universal languages that cross all cultural barriers and complement our mission to develop well-rounded learners. Physical expression in dance develops increased confidence, control, and coordination. Drama nurtures learners’ oral skills and expressive abilities, as well as their emotional awareness. Music, rhythm, beat, melody and harmony is at the core of our human experience. Our comprehensive performing arts programme provides learners with outlets for their creative expression that connect them to each other, their cultural roots, and the broader cultural landscapes of South Africa and the world.
Musicality and dramatic expression are promoted within the College from a very early age. Young learners are screened on a regular basis to nurture their individual performing arts preferences and establish their special talents. Private tuition as well as group work is offered in music. Dance is extremely popular and learners participate from the earliest years through to the Secondary Faculty. Dramatic performances are arranged throughout the year, and our highly entertaining musicals are known throughout the area for their professional quality. Wherever possible, learners are encouraged to participate in international examinations in all three performing arts categories. Talented College learners are invited to join the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Learners are encouraged to participate in eisteddfods and festivals, providing our artists with opportunities to perform in public.

We understand that every learner is born with the innate desire to create; it is as much a part of their growth as moving and playing. The visual arts are incorporated throughout the learners’ day and are seen as a vital form of free expression. Learners encounter, explore, and utilise a variety of visual art disciplines, including painting, drawing, three-dimensional art, mixed media, and digital arts. Our art rooms are fully equipped with the latest technology, and an innovative approach to teaching this subject is applied.

Art tours and outings bring learners into contact with the work of professional artists. Our cultural syllabus fosters national pride and tolerance, engendering an appreciation of South African and international arts and crafts.
