7 their hearts out and their smiles were evident of the great fun they had. In Life Skills, the Grade Four’s have been on a quest to learn more about themselves, their bodies, as well as various ways to show self-respect. We have had wonderful discussions and have had many “ah-ha” moments and fantastic learning experiences. With such an exciting start to our year, we can't wait to see how the Grade Four's will rise to the challenges presented in Quarter 2! The Grade Five’s have settled in and are learning the ropes. We have loved being closer to our friends and sitting in groups has been one of the highlights of our quarter. We have focused on implementing the Growing Minds into all aspects of our learning. We embarked on an exciting Project Based Learning journey which challenged the Grade Five’s to come up with ways to deal with stress and anxiety. Learners had to be creative agents in putting together and editing their very own videos. Our videos were watched by our very own counsellors, Samantha Scott and Serlina Amy Kistan, from the high school. We were then treated to an enlightening talk by them in which they provided feedback on our videos. We have loved experiencing outdoor lessons and our new benches make them even better. We have enjoyed being purposeful collaborators when completing group work. We even got our classroom carpets back which has allowed us to continue our Number Sense programme mat work. We have been critical thinkers and are working diligently at improving our Mathematics. On the 14th of February, we celebrated Friendship Day by dressing up in our Six Brick colours. We discussed what it means to be a good friend and came up with ways in how we can all become responsible citizens. During the last few weeks of the quarter, we were given the chance to be effective communicators and share some information about ourselves through a show and tell presentation. All in all, we have had a wonderful quarter and we cannot wait to see what the next quarter brings. What a busy and productive quarter it has been for our Grade Six learners. Our fledgelings are blossoming into Parklands Ambassadors in all areas of their academic and sporting life. GRADE FOUR TELL US SOME MORE UNDER THE SEA IN GRADE THREE SHOW US THE JIVE IN GRADE FIVE On your marks, get set, go! The Grade Fours tackled their first Quarter with all the positivity and enthusiasm of an athlete running a race! They eagerly explored their new campus, met their new teachers and dove headfirst into their exciting new subjects such as French, Science, Geography and History. During their Project-Based-Learning experience they went on a personal journey and delved deep into their own history, learned about their family roots and traditions, and created their own Museum Display of their lives. It was wonderful to see the creativity and hard work that they put into their Museum Displays, and these certainly left our hearts full! The Grade Fours eagerly took part in our inter-house gala. Amidst shouts of encouragement and excited faces, the swimmers stood on the starting blocks to ready themselves for their races. They swam This quarter the Grade Three learners embarked on a journey of exploration and discovery relating to the ocean. Through our PBL we managed to cover all aspects of Growing Minds and answered the driving question: “ How are we connected to the ocean?” We hosted online Britannica training in our classes and then used SaferBrit as our search platform. Electronic books were published and were sent to a marine biologist for his perusal and feedback. Our PBL journey was shared with the school during an assembly. We were super excited to share snip bits of our PBL with the rest of the school. We explained how we used growing minds right throughout our project. Bright Lego colours were seen all around the campus on Friendship Day! The Grade Three Educators got into the spirit of the theme and each teacher dressed by representing a Lego brick, in one of the six brick colours. On 2 March we celebrated Dr Seuss’ Birthday. The Grade Three quad was decorated with balloons, drawings of the Cat in the Hat, the Lorax and hot air balloons! We just love his famous quote: Oh the places you’ll go, today is the day! Your mountain is waiting so get on your way. JP on the Run was a fun and successful event which saw mass participation from our learners. There was great excitement as the invitation for an underwater dress-up day was presented. We had a whale of a time! Mermaids, sea urchins, clownfish and octopuses graced our Parklands Shores. We certainly ended the quarter with a BANG! We are looking forward to travelling Around the World in the Autumn Quarter with our Grade Three Learners.
