Quarter 1 Newsletter 2021

GRADE R Our first quarter has been a fabulous, sun and fun-filled time for our excited little Grade R learners. They have thoroughly enjoyed their introduction to new lessons including Robotics and Recorder on Fridays and isiXhosa on a Wednesday. A highlight of the learners' week is our Six Bricks sessions, where we use 6 coloured Duplo bricks which we use to develop logic, problem solving, critical and collaborative thinking and memory skills. Our new Fantasy and Block Rooms have become some of our favorite indoor spaces, where ingenuity, creativity, imaginative play, engineering, exploration and team-work are demonstrated on a daily basis. In these spaces we also facilitate quiet reading, thoughtful design and even movement activities. They are such vibrant and inviting venues, which the Grade Rs love visiting. We have loved our exciting weekly events, including Fairy Tale Day, Polka Dot Day and Dr Seuss day. The Grade Rs learnt about sun safety this quarter during the Sun smart show. They were given special light sensitive bracelets which demonstrated the impact of sunblock in shielding us from harmful UV rays and have loved using them to teach others about sun protection. Christopher Robin Pre-Primary celebrated its 41st birthday in style. Our learners were thrilled to be treated to a special birthday cake and a wonderfully decorated jumping castle. Happy birthday Christopher Robin. Here's to many more! Wishing all our learners and parents a well deserved break and looking forward to welcoming you back to a second quarter as delightful as our first. Tali Maltz and Anine de Lange The ‘Five Senses Show’ engaged all five senses of each little one. Delicious smells, beautiful sounds, the grainy texture of sandpaper and gooey individual slime provided a sensory experience to be remembered. Throughout the quarter we have covered a variety of themes and one of the most exciting themes has definitely been the ‘Colours’ theme. The little ones dressed up in different colours each school day, consolidating and learning in a fun manner. We enjoyed matching colours and learning more about primary and secondary colours. During our art activities we explored with colours and to end this theme off we ate an array of colourful food. The Tiggers are looking forward to learning even more next quarter. Lauren Medcalf GRADE 00 The Kangas have settled beautifully in their new class. We have had a fun-filled quarter learning about new themes, playing outside on our beautiful jungle gyms, and enjoying new and exciting activities in the classroom. We were lucky enough to have a few exciting dress-up days and shows. The ‘Five Senses Show’ was an absolute hit, as always. The Kangas participated, explored and learnt when touching different textures, smelling mint leaves, tasting sour and sweet items, hearing different sounds and music, and looking through a kaleidoscope. We look forward to seeing what Quarter 2 brings. I wish all the Kangas and their families a safe holiday and a wonderful Easter. Lauren Cowing
