180 | Edition No. 24 | 2021 PARKLANDS COLLEGE & Christopher Robin Pre-Primary (Est. 1980) Further Education “Reaching Outwards, GrowingMinds, Building Futures” In January, we welcomed new students from Table View, Atlantis, Melkbos, Gugulethu and Khay - elitsha. We were especially delighted to wel- come an “ex-Parkie” to join our training this year. Orientation was a great success - one of the students stated “that it was the best day of her life” and another told us that participating in this training “was a lifelong dream.” Our students spent the year attending daily lectures on the Senior Preparatory campus and the practical aspect of their training in the Pre-Primary. Practical activities are assessed by the classroom teacher or the lecturer and guidance is continuously offered. Group work, discussions and demon- strations are encouraged during lectures. The students ab - solutely cherish their time in Christopher Robin Pre-Primary and enjoy experiencing and working with children of differ- ent age groups. We have had many exciting developments in our Further Education Faculty this year, and we recently received won- derful news that our accreditation to offer The Higher Cer- tificate in Early Childhood Development was approved. It is a much needed qualification in our sector and there have been many enquiries. We cannot wait to welcome our first group of students in January 2022. Our 2020 students wrote their final examination in March and all passed their final exam with flying colours. We are particularly proud of Phathiswa Rasmeni, who is one of our support staff in the Pre-Primary. She managed to complete her practical work in Christopher Robin Pre-Primary, self- study, join us for lectures when possible, and continued her full time work with pride. It is a privilege to work with our students and guide them in becoming practitioners who we hope will have a positive impact on the children in our country. We look forward to welcoming a new cohort of students as well as continued growth and exciting additional offerings in the Further Education Faculty next year.
