Magazine 2020

75 2020 | Edition No. 23 | Our weekly assemblies were pre-recorded and screened on Friday mornings before the start of the academic day. We hosted online Music Concerts, the highly acclaimed Majors and Minors Concert, as well as online Inter-house Public Speaking Championships for juniors and seniors respectively. Our debaters joined the online league, while some of our public speakers entered a national competition in which they excelled. Robotics competitions moved online. Parent-Educator meetings moved online. We hosted numerous guest speakers from around the world on online platforms. While we missed out on sports matches, the excitement of Derby Day and live performances at assemblies, enabled us to enjoy some great experiences for which we will always remain grateful. ALL OUT! “Here is the important part where the arms come back into play. This is like pushing the accelerator to the floor in a car. As the 400m runner approaches the finish line, they will need to make sure they keep driving and that they lean across the line. Slowing down just before the line will compromise valuable time and could mean the difference between a school record or disappointment.” (trackstarusa.com) Thanks to a well planned race we were able to finish strong.  Our learners - from grade 7 to grade 12 - were well prepared for the final examinations.  Because of the advanced technology at our school, we could continue with our prestigious Honours and Leadership event online. Valedictory had to be moved until after the final NSC paper had been written, as we had to do with the Matric Farewell. Because the Matrics had missed out on so much of a traditional Matric year, we worked very hard to prepare a safe but very special Matric Farewell, outdoors on our own beautiful Campus. In crossing the finish line, we can look back on a race well run. This would not have been possible without years of preparation and most certainly not without the support from all around us. Every ground and maintenance staff member, every educator and administrative staff, every learner, every parent, every Director, every other member of the management team ...all of them played a role we may never allow ourselves to forget.
