Magazine 2020
4 | Edition No. 23 | 2020 I was invited to Chair the Board of a fairly new Private School named Parklands College at the beginning of 2002. Living in the Southern Suburbs, I had never heard of Parklands College, but I soon discovered that it was an up and coming school in a new part of Cape Town. Having just recently retired as CEO of a small manufacturing company, I was happy to take on the task and I am very pleased that I did! It gave me an extra lease on life, and I have really enjoyed watching Parklands College grow into the magnifi - cent school it is today! Remembering the very early days, the main build- ing in Raats Drive had about 550 pupils in total, and fairly limited sports grounds and facilities. However, thanks to the foresight and drive of our Founder, Lorraine Roth, we now have over a thou- sand pupils, situated in four magnificent buildings, as well as an Innovation Centre which is sure to be the envy of all the schools in Cape Town. Sadly, all good things in life have to come to an end, and after 18 years, I feel that it is time that I gave up the Chair at Parklands College and hand over to a younger person who is more in touch with Education as it is today! I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my time at Parklands College, and I am very proud to have been associated with the development of this magnificent school!
