Magazine 2020

176 | Edition No. 23 | 2020 PRE-PRIMARY We would like to express our gratitude to our parent body for supporting our outreach projects throughout the year.We believe it is important to teach our young learners the value of giving and caring for others in our commu- nity and greatly appreciate your support. We started the year collecting craft materials, sensory items, educational equipment and cush- ions for Lily Ginsberg School for Special Needs in Kenilworth. They were most grateful and apprecia- tive for the donation which they used to enhance their creative arts, support skills development and brighten up their classrooms. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the children dressed in red, pink and white and monetary donations were given to the Red Cross Chil- dren’s Hospital. In celebration of Nelson Man- dela’s birthday on the 18th of July, a generous donation of fresh and tinned vegetables and soup mixes were donated to Little Brinks. Nelson Mandela said: “Change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.” OUTREACH The difference a warm cup of nu- tritious and delicious soup made on a cold winter’s day, can not be underestimated. In support of ‘Reach For A Dream”, many of our children jumped out of bed and came straight to school in their pj’s and slippers! Although the an- nual Slipper Day was celebrated virtually this year, our spirits were high and we were proud to raise money for this worthy cause and organisation, which aims to make dreams a reality for children with life-threatening illnesses. Lucky Lucy, Fallen Angels and the SPCA help and care for severely neglected and abused animals and they do amazing work in our community. The families at Chris- topher Robin Pre-Primary col- lected tinned, dried packaged food and treats for these animals, and dressed up as animals for our an- nual SPCA dress- up day. What a fun and interest- ing day with the different animals visiting our school! The Maitland Cottage Orthopae- dic Hospital is the only orthopae- dic hospital in the Southern Hem- isphere specialising in the medical and surgical treatment of children with physical disability due to disease or accidents. Our kind- hearted families at Christopher Robin collected and donated ed- ucational toys and equipment for these brave little patients, keeping them busy while being treated at the hospital. Thank you to our families for giv- ing so generously, enriching the community in big and small ways and therefore making a difference.
