Magazine 2020

114 | Edition No. 23 | 2020 2020, a year that will definitely go down in the history books as extraordinary, with tons of unpredictable and character-defining events. The universe decided to treat us to a worldwide pandemic that challenged each and every one of us. Covid-19 profoundly disrupted the daily lives of many of us and the matrics were hit the hardest. However, during these trying times, we all united to sup- port and guide one another in the last year of our schooling journey together, standing proudly by our motto, ‘’United by chance, family by choice.” Although the year presented itself with many challenges, many of us were able to take this time to reflect and appreciate how valuable it is to spend time with friends and family under normal cir- cumstances. A quote by Robert H Schuller that reads, ‘Tough times never last, but tough people do’ perfectly describes the Parklands Matric Class of 2020. We overcame obstacles that no other matric class ever has had to and we learnt valuable life lessons throughout this period that will stick with us and help us throughout all of our future endeavours. However, this year was not defined by the Corona-Virus. It was defined by supporting one another and coming together to create those memories that we will treasure as the Class of 2020, for the rest of our lives. As we all diverge onto our own paths, here is one last quote: Christopher Columbus once said, ‘You can never cross an ocean unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.’ Step out of your comfort zones and sail into unchartered waters where endless possibilities and opportunities await. Get creative, be bold and live the life that you’ve always dreamt of living. Storm Elliott and Darian Naidoo Head Prefects What a year it has been! Although 2020 has been an unpredictable year, we have made the most of the opportunities we were given. We are so thankful and blessed to have been a part of an incredible Executive and Prefect Body as well as being entrusted by the Col- lege to lead, learn and grow. To the learners: We wish you all the best for the rest of your high school career. It does not last forever, so we encourage you to work hard and create fond memories. Thank you for believing in us and supporting us; we are so thankful for the opportunity to have served you. To the Prefect Body of 2021: We wish you all the best and cannot wait to hear about all the amazing achievements you make. Use your time wisely, be creative and continue with your legacy. Sadly the year has come to an end - but it has been an incredible year despite the challenges. We are beyond grateful for everything the College has provided for us. We have all been well prepared to conquer the outside world, and we cannot wait to go out and do just that. However, our blood will forever run blue.
