9 2020 | Edition No. 23 | The final match was against Paul Roos Gymnasium, which was live streamed during the last day of Comic Con SA. Our team won the silver medal in an in - credibly entertaining final game where both teams showed amazing sportsmanship and professionalism. Probably the biggest highlight of 2020 was when we were selected as one of seven South African schools and one of 100 glob - al schools to promote a higher and better standard of education for all in the free, vir - tual T4 World Education Week Virtual Sum - mit from 5 - 9 October 2020. We were specifically chosen for our use of technology in learning. Our learners and teachers pre - sented on the topic of “Preparing Learners for their Futures!” to an event that had an audience of over 111 000 viewers in total. Although the entire COVID-19 experience has been extremely challenging it has also been satisfyingly rewarding. We have received the most incredible teach - er, learner and most importantly parent feedback and support of our online pro - gramme and we have learnt so much along the way. Most importantly, it has confirmed that no matter the situation, even in the face of ad - versity, the College and its educators are ag - ile enough to continue to offer a top quality learning experience while our learners are able to achieve the extraordinary. Keagan has now released a total of six Apps on the Apple App store which is an incredible achievement. We are also very excited about the all girls team, Capeable, who entered their App, “TouchBase”, into the global entrepreneurship challenge hosted by Technovation. “TouchBase” lists non-profit organ - isations as well as their needs for volunteers or other assistance.The team consisted of Brooke Elliot, Isabella Cutten, Manuela Da Silva, Christine Greig and Sedira Mam - doo. After participating in the first World Vir - tual Technovation Summit in August 2020, CapeAble entered into the EMGirls Entre - preneurial Competition where they placed in the Top 20 out of over 350 global teams. Their app was released on the Apple App store at the end of November and has re - ceived a lot of attention from the media.This is a major milestone in our school’s progress because it is our first officially released App developed by girls only. During Lockdown Nieka Ireland designed and developed an app called “Impact” that ad - dresses the United Nations Sustainable De - velopment Goal (SDG) 13 - Climate Action. This app allows you to personally track your carbon footprint and therefore your impact on the environment. We are looking forward to seeing this App released on the Apple App store before the end of the year as well. eSports was the only sporting category to have massive growth during the pandemic. Our Parklands College CS:GO team quali - fied to compete in the High School Esports League championships with seven other top schools from across the country and made it to the grand finale.
