96 GRADE 7 WITZENBERG It was with great excitement that the Grade 7 learners and their educators boarded the camp bus. Not knowing exactly what to expect, there was a lot of speculation and great expectations amongst the learners. As soon as they arrived at Witzenberg, they headed straight for their dorms to unpack and get ready for the first activity. They needed to get back onto the bus to head to Ceres where adventure awaited - zip lining. Whilst one group was ziplining, the other group was given the opportunity to cool off in crisp, clean, secluded rock pools. Lunch was served to the learners in between the two activities and once both groups were finished, the buses headed back to camp. Once back at camp, the learners spent the evening, as well as the following day, participating in team-building activities. The learners were split into random groups. This experience taught them about making sacrifices and working effectively with each member of their team. Their team building activities included a fox hunt, dodgeball, kickball, song activities and a dress-up challenge. In their free time, the learners were able to swim and work on their grade war cry. Every evening ended off with wonderful hot chocolate and free time for the learners to interact with one another. On the last morning, the learners and educators went on a lovely walk around the area and familiarised themselves with their surroundings. The majestic mountains were a wonderful backdrop for this scenic walk. It was a fitting end to a very successful camp. Some of our most memo- rable moments as we pro- gress through our lives often come from those early mornings and warm evenings spent outdoors – surrounded by nature. Perhaps the value of out- door education isn’t im- mediately realised by the millennial generation, with many of their pre- ferred recreational activi- ties happening inside, but from experience we know that these annual outdoor adventure camps and the memories made will lin- ger in their memories long after many other school experiences have been for- gotten. We ensure that we use only the best service providers, with proven safety records and sound educational programmes linked to the outdoor experiences. Here is where it all happened at the start of this year ... OUTDOOR AdventureCamps
