88 host the award winning educator, Sylvia Duckworth, to share tips and tricks on sketchnoting in the classroom. We have used Apple’s suite of creativity apps alongside Google’s suite of productivity apps to create the perfect marriage of tools to enhance creativity, collaboration, criti- cal thinking and responsibility. Learners have made use of Google Sites (Google’s website creation tool) this year to collaborate on project websites from anywhere as well as set up personal portfolios for prefect applications. Educators have used sites to launch projects, share resources, and most recently to set up PI 2.0, our new Parklands Intranet. Google slides are used in almost every lesson as not only is it a great way to present material, it is a fantastic way to ex- plore ideas in groups and record findings. Google Docs are a go to format for anything that needs to be typed and are easily shared amongst learners and teachers. Teachers can easily make comments in a doc while learners are work- ing on a document which means that the final product is much better as it is a collaborative work in progress. Explor- ing data in Google Sheets has taught learners how to make meaningful deductions from data. In Grade 7 this year learn- ers were encouraged to graph their results using charts in Google Sheets. INFORMATION & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY Secondary Technology and the iPad specifically is a fantastic creative tool. This year we have seen some amazing development in key apps on the iPad which have enabled our learners to use technology in even more creative ways. Garage- Band has been one of the best kept secrets on the iPad. The Grade 7’s started this year by learning all the Garage- Band basics and remixed “Can’t Stop the Feeling’ - part of Apple’s new Everyone Can Create Music curriculum. The music department has used this app to create ringtones, sample sounds and even remix our school song. Video is such a great way to document learning. Apple Clips has given us the perfect way to quickly capture ideas in video format and share them. Apple also introduced Green Screening into their iMovie app this year and we have used both the studio as well as the breakaway rooms to take video and then change backgrounds, transporting people to other parts of the world. The art of taking good photographs is key to being able to tell good stories. We launched Everyone Can Create photography with our prefects at the beginning of this year and then recently to our Grade 11 learner group on camp. Our devices are so much lighter and more com- pact than the cameras of the past and the image quality is often better in most light conditions. Understanding how to take photographs of objects, landscapes and portraits as well as the basic and advanced image editing available from the basic photos app on iPad through to the ad- vanced features of photoshop enable our learners to tell great stories and enhance reality. With the introduction of Apple Pencil to our educators at the college we have seen that everyone can draw, al- though some of us are better than others! Explain Every- thing and Explain Everything Collaboration have become go to apps for many of our teachers. Tutorials are easily created and in many cases learning materials uploaded to YouTube.TheApple Pencil has also encouraged new forms of note taking - sketchnoting. Parklands was privileged to
