55 Food, glorious food! The staff in the Preparatory can hear the giggles and feel the sheer excitement that our Junior Chefs have when arriving for their class every day. With programmes like Mas- terchef and Bake Off our learners have certainly been exposed to the TV version of the workings of a kitchen and are eager to show their skills and love of food. We began with building skills, how to use a knife, different types of ingredients, etc.Towards the end of the year we have slowly mastered our techniques and feel more confident about showing off our skills. The Grades 1 to 3 have experienced a sensory feast with their hands, rolling in coconut, kneading their own pizza dough and feeling the crumbling texture of biscuit dough. They have tasted different spices, sweet and savoury, and used a variety of textured fruits and vegetables. We have even experienced different colours and shapes and even learnt different pastry folding techniques. The Grades 4 to 6 have sliced and diced their way through class. They are developing their knife skills and have shown more con- fidence towards the end of the year. They are keen to learn more complicated techniques and we challenged ourselves to make our own pasta and sauce with great success. Bellissimo! It has been rewarding to see the Junior Chefs so excited to share stories about their food experiences with other learners and educators. They share in the excitement of preparing their own item of food and perhaps making it again for their parents at home. I am sure that most of our parents have relished in many experiments at home and are looking forward to another year of culinary delights. I disappear into books. What’s your superpower? Belonging to a club with like-minded peers is a special privilege for our Grade 3 and 4 book- worms. These clubs gather weekly to have fun with books, stories and movies. While laying the foundation of a lifelong love affair with books, unique friendships are formed.A wonderful treat is getting a sneak peek of all the new purchases first, and unpacking a box from the bookshop instantly becomes a celebration! Games, activities and crafts are woven into the time we spend together, often leaving everyone wanting more. nounced France’s plans to host a competition to design a replacement spire and roof for the cathedral. France is looking for a fresh look "adapted to the techniques and the challenges of our era.” Therefore, during the month of May and June the French lessons were dedicated to the Notre-Dame and the French learners discussed its renovation. The learners considered a variety of styles - from contemporary glass, crystal and stainless steel towers to Gothic stained glass windows for the roof! Their input was remark- able and their appreciation for the classic Gothic style impressive. The grade 4, 5 and 6 learners dis- cussed the 17 best submissions of the architects and designers and even voted on the best designs of the roof and the spire. Levi Cornelius and GerhardVosloo submit- ted their own designs for this cathedral to the President of France, Monsieur Emmanuel Macron.
