Magazine 2019
30 On writing my final magazine article as Preparatory Principal, this quote seems particularly relevant and has allowed me pause to reflect on the key characteristics of a succesful educational model. In an age which has been cited as the ‘fourth Industrial Revolution’, the only constant is change. I was recently asked by a colleague what I considered to be best educational practice. With the rapid evolution of technology, a sole focus on the hard skills of knowledge acquisition will leave our children vulnerable to change.Through the ‘Parklands Mind’, our curriculum offering is enriched with opportunities for learners to also develop the soft skills such as communicating and listening well, possessing insights into other points of view, being supportive of their peers, critical thinking and problem solving, and being able to make connections across complex ideas. These fundamental human emotional and social skills are undoubtedly essential for our children to adapt to change more easily, and it remains our priority to nurture these in preparation for their entry into in an ever evolving workplace. In the Preparatory our learners are provided differentiated, enquiry based teaching and learning experiences, with access to multimedia and collaborative work and design spaces. What makes our school truly unique, is the constant pursuit to equip our future citizens with the intelligence, emotional grit and mindset of adaptibility, for success in a shifting global landscape. In conclusion, I wish to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Lorraine Roth and the Board of Directors for the enormous opportunities afforded me during my time at the College. As partners in the educational journey,it has also been my privilege to enjoy a longstanding relationship with a very supportive parent body. I extend my gratitude to you for the many happy and proud memories that we have shared as a Preparatory family. I look forward to watching with pride as the College continues to excel as a leading educational institution, at the forefront of change and innovation.
