121 Our U/12 Netball girls travelled to Knysna from 24 - 28 April to experience a busy, fun-filled Netball tour in the breathtaking surroundings of Knysna. Our U/12 team visited Oak Hill Preparatory as well as Riverwood Primary for friendly matches before they engaged in the Netball Fes - tival hosted by Sport at Backward Point. The Netball Festival welcomed 40 well respected netball teams from all over the country. Our girls were not only kept busy with netball matches, but visited Monkey - land, Knysna Elephant Park and also en - joyed a boat cruise on the Knysna Estu - ary during their stay. The Netball tour provided a produc - tive pre-season netball experience which prepared our girls for their local league matches and festi - vals as well as allowed the op - portunity for our team to build great team spirit. We would like to congratulate these girls on their appearance stand - ards throughout the event while they represented their school proudly. Our gratitude must be extended to the tour personnel who accompanied, guided and cared for the girls on tour, Ms. Malan and Mr.Watson. This event not only provides the platform for Parklands to build healthy sporting relations with the traditional sporting schools involved, but also presents to our learners an unforgettable sporting experience while they create new friend - ships. The memories and experience of this sports tour will remain a highlight for many years to come. U/11 A Cricket Tour to Kwazulu Natal The Under 11 KwaZulu Natal Cricket Tour was an eagerly anticipated event. Fly - ing off to the Kingdom of the Zulu was exciting and the dark green landscape on arrival at King Shaka International Airport was indeed a welcome sight. The team finally arrived at Clift - on, Durban, which presented a top class cricket venue with the Indian Ocean providing the back - ground. Our team engaged with a high intensity warm-up session to loosen up for the week’s cricket. Clifton, Durban, elected to bat first and Parklands impressed with early top fielding and bowl - ing performances as they restrict - ed a very talented Clifton batting line-up to 117/5 in 25 overs. The Clifton bowlers were motivated and eager as they answered with a disciplined bowl - ing performance which introduced the Parklands batters to the different stand - ard of cricket. In what seemed the perfect overcast conditions to bowl, Clifton pulled out all the stops and bowled out Parklands. Our boys took to heart many invaluable lessons. Our boys were then exposed to their first hosting experience as they were warmly welcomed by the Clifton families. The boys were motivated and up for the next challenge of facing one of the most respected and traditional cricketing schools in the country, DPHS. Following a relaxed morning at Suncoast Entertain - ment Centre and Durban Beach, the tour - ing party headed to Durban Preparatory High School for the second tour match. The players were engaged in technical bat - ting activities prior to the match. Parklands were asked to bowl and our boys heeded the Coach’s call and put up a spirited bowling performance. Luke-Dan - iel Pillay was commended on his improved bowling. Our batting also improved in leaps and bounds. Ethan Randall batted with patience and grit for a well-earned 35. Undoubtedly, our stand-out perfor- mance of the day was Tyler Heyns’ 52 not out.
