119 WATER POLO What an energetic start to our water polo season! This sport- ing code is very popular amongst our learners as the number of participants grew tremendously. Parklands will certainly be able to field more water polo teams in the near future as 24 girls and 22 boys participated in this year’s water polo programme.The consistent growth and improvement in this department is a clear reflection of the great guidance, dedication and efforts of our new water polo coach, Ms. Malan. Our players certainly displayed outstanding commitment and hard work from the onset. Parklands is the only school in theWest Coast region that offers water polo as a sporting code.We established healthy water polo relationships with all the participating Cape Town water polo schools, mainly situated in the Southern Suburbs, and have entered their water polo league. This high standard of competition will assist Parklands in setting the bar for our players. We are very excited to be part of this amazing team sport. SWIMMING Our swimmers enjoyed another exciting swimming season.The Grade one and two swimmers are having loads of fun in the pool while learning and improving their basic swimming strokes and techniques. Their dedication and love for swimming comes through in all our lessons as great eagerness to excel is on display during each and every lesson. Some of the Grade two swimmers were invited to their first swimming galas and they impressed with their outstand - ing achievements.The Senior Preparatory swimmers enjoyed the opportunity to compete for house points at their Interhouse swimming gala. Learners of all abilities took part and demonstrated commitment and dedication to their Houses.The Top 8 swimmers per age group showcased their fitness levels and techniques at the annual Ladder 8 swimming gala which determines our main swim- ming awards, the Junior and Senior Victor andVictrix Ludorum. The facilities are exceptional and motivated the swimmers to improve their performances, achieving six record breaking events! Our swimming squads competed extremely well in numerous galas throughout the year, but the highlight remains the Storzner Cup swimming gala hosted by Milnerton Primary where the Parklands swimming team walked away with 1st place out of six schools. We are exceptionally proud of each and every swimmer this year.They have truly dedicated themselves to the sport and have shown excellent improvement, commitment and sportsmanship. WORK HARD.
