Magazine 2018

Junior Preparatory - The Incredible Dog Show Worcester and Tulbagh provided the ideal venues for our Grade Five and Six learners to enjoy the outdoors with a variety of action packed activities, and opportunities to build confidence and trust within a group and team setting. “Sometimes, it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.”- Nelson Mandela We are proud of our Grade Six learners who have embraced the various leadership opportunities within the Faculty. They have served as role models for their Grade Three counterparts, and have shown an impressive commitment to their duties. The greatly anticipated Farewell provided an opportunity to bid our 2018 Grade Six class bon voyage, as they embark on a new adventure in the Secondary Faculty. Our sporting and cultural activities have highlighted the talents of our sportsmen, artists, dramatists, dancers and musicians. Throughout the year participation in external events, competitions and examinations has confirmed the exceptional quality of the programmes on offer. Our Cultural Department has achieved numerous accolades during the course of the year. Our learners were acknowledged in top categories for art, drama and music at the Cape Town Eisteddfod. We are extremely proud of our Choirs who received recognition on a regional and national level. It has been a privilege to observe the development of our musicians who have entertained us at assemblies, concerts and cultural events. The sporting calendar has been jam-packed with match fixtures and festivals. Although the severe drought in the Western Cape put paid to many local league activities, our innovative sports staff created new opportunities to ensure a variety of participation. “I never lose. I either win or learn.” - Nelson Mandela “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead. “ - Nelson Mandela It is important that our learners practise the core values of compassion and humanity, and various outreach initiatives have provided insight into the plight of the less fortunate in our community. We have continued our affiliation with Dunoon Primary, Home of Hope, SPCA, SANCCOB, Sunflower Foundation, and the senior citizens in our community. “We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in your hands to make a difference.” - Nelson Mandela We are cognisant of the very valuable and significant partnership we share with parents in our educational journey. Thank you for entrusting us with this responsibility and the unimaginable reward that it brings. 51. parklands.co.za
