Magazine 2018
To celebrate the magic of books and World Book Day, we dressed up as our favourite characters from books. What a wonderful opportunity to read and enjoy stories together and highlight the importance of reading and storytelling in the development of our little people. It is so true that children need our help to become readers for life! This year we have added to our existing resources and were excited to offer the children a unique and very special creative experience in our specially designed “Soft Bricks and Building” room. All our Pre-Primary children have access to this fun and creative environment that is not only inviting, but simply irresistible. The children are building with Lego, Duplo and Soft Bricks. There is simply nothing that compares to these amazing “life-size” bricks, which ensure whole body movement and development while our little people are playing make believe, building and learning to work together with their friends! The Autumn Quarter was filled with much fun and learning and many interactive shows to further extend the learning experience. Experi-Buddies once again came to visit, helping our learners to explore the fun world of science. The children were involved in interactive projects, exciting demonstrations and basic experiments relating to the theme of outer space. The Crackerjacks learnt nursery rhymes at school and were treated to a show by the Lilliput Players. Old MacDonald and his wife took them on an exciting journey through the land of nursery rhymes in three different languages. They also visited the circus which had just come to town. It was so sweet to observe our little people singing, dancing and interacting together! The Passionate Green Initiative visited Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. The children delighted in watching this recycling show. The children were taken on an adventure which taught them about recycling and up-cycling. The show highlighted our “green journey” towards helping and healing our planet’s scars caused by waste. It was a fun-filled adventure that had many moments of laughter, but at the core teaches a valuable lesson. On 1 June 2018 we celebrated International Children’s Day and invited our teddy bears and soft toys to school to join us for a picnic. The May Play was once again enjoyed by all. Apart from enjoying the singing and acting, we were delighted by all the children remembering their words and actions, and having the confidence to perform in front of such a large audience. Although it was a very chilly week, the children kept warm during our Winter Olympic Games Day in June. In order to participate, each child registered in their class and activities were underway by 8:30. Our little athletes maneuvered their way around the obstacle course in the hall and classes rotated around the school. The children participated in skiing, snowball throwing, noodle soccer, penguin shuffling and “snowflakes keep falling on my head”. They had a great deal of fun and were most proud to receive their little chocolate medals for participating. A topic very much on everyone’s mind and in everyone’s hearts, is water. The children have been learning all about the value of it and how to conserve it. Experi-Buddies once again visited to assist the children in learning about water. In September, the Grade R’s were treated to a fascinating and interactive show, highlighting the different dairy cows (Friesland, Jersey, Ayrshire and Guernsey) and the importance of dairy in our daily diet. The highlight of the show was the fact that the children had an opportunity to taste chocolate. Special Person’s Day is always a much anticipated event and having our “special people” join us and participate in our class for a short while, means a great deal to the children. Our building came alive with all our special visitors. The connections and special relationships as role players in their lives were most evident and wonderful to witness! Some very interesting visitors joined us at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. The Reptile Show was a great hit and the Grade R’s were absolutely in awe of the tortoise, bearded dragon and rock monitor. They loved having the opportunity to see and touch the snakes, chameleon and gecko. What a wonderful opportunity to learn and discover! Lloyd Bristow’s Dog Show remains an absolute hit. The children delighted in clapping along and singing to “Who let the Dogs Out?” as they watched the tricks of these truly incredible dogs who adore performing. Apart from learning a great deal about dogs and their care, the show is also very entertaining and a great way to end off the year! The Grade 000’s and 00’s were very excited to share the songs they learnt with their families at our end of year concert and were very brave on stage. The Grade R’s presented “An Ocean Tale” and the beautiful costumes and heartfelt effort from the children were enjoyed by the audience. The Grade R Graduation was the final celebration of the year and it was once again a very special ceremony. As we look back on our graduates’ time in Christopher Robin Pre-Primary, we are very proud of their development and wish them well for Grade 1 in 2019. We view our school as a family and we aim to provide an environment that is happy and safe. 25. parklands.co.za
