Magazine 2018

It has been 14 years since I met Kelly Martin and D’Angelo Savvas, 7 years since I went on Sports Tour with Daniel Robinson and Justin Coburn and 6 years since I started in the High School. To some of you, this may sound familiar. This is a quote from my speech that I gave at the Matric Dance but is relevant to today’s celebrations as well. It is crazy how quickly time flies and how we take the small moments for granted. When you are younger, you think that these types of events will never come because they seem so far away. However, after seeing one of my friends getting their driver’s licence, and then another, and another, and another, it all started to sink in. Today celebrates the end of our school career. Some of us have been together since the tender age of six, and others joined along the way. Nevertheless, we are all here together as one class celebrating the same thing, graduating from high school together. I have been in the high school since the first day of Grade 7 so I can confidently say that our class is the most hard working, goal driven and passionate group of Matrics the school has ever had. Our class is diverse and boasts a lot of different talents and passions. Many have played roles in my life in some way or another, minor or major, and I would just like to say thank you to you all. I know that the future holds success for each and every one of you, in your own individual way. I would like to thank all the teachers who have played a key role in my life - too many to mention. Thank you to Mrs Clementi and Mrs McKinney at reception for always being so helpful and sorting me out, even if it was stapling my last pair of school pants together before final assembly. To Janie and Nondi who have been with me since the very beginning in Christopher Robin Pre-Primary, thank you for your help and the happiness that you spread around the school. I would also like to thank Mrs Steyn and Mrs Roth for making the College the vibrant place that it is. The hard work and commitment that these two women put in behind the scenes is often unnoticed but the effects of it all are clearly seen through the workings and happenings of the school. To my friends, I appreciate you beyond words and I can’t wait to see what the world has in store for you. To my team in white: Frank, Nina and Tara. I really couldn’t have asked for a better group to work with. You are all insanely hard working and goal driven and I aspire to be like you all. Thank you for the great year. To my rugby boys, I’m glad that I got to enjoy my high school rugby with such quality people. From the days of U14, waking up at 6:30am with half-dead voice notes to such a successful year in our last year. I will forever cherish the memories on the field. To rest of the boys, Shosholoza forever. To my brother, you’ve always had my back through everything. To the rest of my family, thank you for the support, for giving me a different perspective on life and for all the good times. Thank you for always believing in me and for giving me the tools and opportunities to succeed. To my dad, thank you for your constant support and effort even though it wasn’t always easy. My mom has the best heart and has always had me and my brother in mind whenever she does anything. From the early hours of the morning or during the late hours in the night, she is always there, trying to make me and my brother’s journey through life as easy as possible. You are the rock in my life and I love you very much. My fourteen years at the College are now over. To the Class of 2018: good luck to each and every one of you for finals, I know you’ll all smash them! - Simeon September 199. parklands.co.za
