Mr Frederick and Cayley Hefer Grade 10 - I Matter Workshop I Matter is a personal development programme empowering adolescents in building their emotional and social intelligence. Through a series of workshops, adolescents become aware of their personal power and how this influences their experience of themselves, others and of their lives. On Friday, 23 March, our Grade 10 group took part in a workshop that provides learners with an opportunity to experience the impact of the programme. The 1-hour workshop touched on a number of topics including self-esteem, our internal dialogue, cognitive distortions and cognitive re-appraisal. By the end of the session, learners recognised their subjective perceptions of others and themselves, how these may be limiting, and how they can be changed. The session was hosted by social entrepreneur, Salma Kathrada. Grade 9 - Sexuality Workshop As part of the Life Orientation curriculum the Grade 9 learners attended a Sexuality Workshop where they discussed facts and opinions about sexuality including: puberty, reproduction, contraceptives, gender, pregnancy, STIs and some legal issues around sexuality. The workshop involved some lectures, group activities and class discussions.
