Tanya Dean Parklands College Preparatory Faculty My passion for all things education began at an early age as I gained inspiration from observing my mother in her teaching role. I started my career at Rustenburg Girls’ Junior School and left the public school system in 2008 to join Parklands College, where I have fulfilled numerous positions across all levels of management. I became principal of the Preparatory Faculty in 2013, and it has been my enormous privilege to observe the development and achievements of learners as they have progressed through the grades. Soon we shall welcome the new Grade One learners of 2019 as they begin their formal schooling, and I am immensely excited at the opportunity to watch them grow and flourish in all spheres of College life. Chantel Lamb Christopher Robin Pre-Primary Faculty After studying at Mowbray Teacher’s Training College, I started my career as a very eager Grade 1 teacher at Muizenberg Junior School. From there, I taught at an independent school for two years. In 2003, I was delighted to achieve my dream and goal of teaching at Parklands College and Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. For three years I had the privilege of teaching Grade R children. It was never a dull moment in my class, and I absolutely loved this age with their creativity, innocence and little antics. I became Deputy Principal in 2006 and was honoured to take up the role of Principal in 2012. I believe we should all be life-long learners and in 2009, I completed my Honours Degree specialising in Education Management. I have a special interest and passion for the development of the young child, and strongly believe that a happy and solid foundation in the early years paves the way for each little person’s future. The best part of my job is seeing the growth that happens in our children from Pre-Primary up until they matriculate. Very Important Principals Sylvia Steyn Parklands College Secondary Faculty I always wanted to be a teacher and was teaching my dolls and teddies in neat little rows to sing and recite nursery rhymes from the age of four. I started my teaching career at Tygerberg Commercial High School and left the public school system in 1988 to join Christian Brothers College in Green Point where I was the Deputy Principal when I left in 1998. I started at Parklands College in 1999 and became principal of the Secondary Faculty in March 2000. I have an Honours Degree in Guidance and Counselling and during the course of my studies, developed a special interest in parent guidance. I love working with teenagers, as they challenge us to keep thinking and adjust our thinking all the time. My greatest joy is to meet past learners who tell me what they remember and appreciate of their years at Parklands College. It has been a great honour and privilege to lead this dynamic high school of which I am most proud. 13. parklands.co.za
