The Music Room has a large keyboard mural, making it more accessible for learners to understand and remember note names. The Dance Room mural provides the learners with an opportunity to see the positions used at the barre and mimic them by looking in the mirrors surrounding the room. And the Drama Room has been nicknamed, ‘The Forest’ as its mural leads us on a winding path through the forest to all sorts of adventures. The Preparatory Faculty learners are privileged to have specialised Art, Drama and Music lessons once a week, as well as the choice of extending their knowledge with co-curricular classes too. The corridors of both Preparatory campuses are filled with an array of artwork, and this is changed regularly to ensure that everyone who walks past receives a visual burst of energy through colour. The learners have been creating varied work, thereby heightening their understanding of the elements of art. Their pencil skills have been enhanced through various drawing exercises which help them to understand the use of shape, form and value. Papier Maché , clay modelling and working with wood, wool, beads and sequins adds texture to their creations. The use of iPad applications has given learners a new perspective on creating interesting art. The arrival of the ‘Little Bits’ easy-to-use electronic building blocks, empowered the learners to create inventions which can be used as drawing tools. Some of the learners also enjoyed printing their art using our three-dimensional printer. We are very proud of our Preparatory learners who entered works of art in the Cape Town Eisteddfod. We received excellent results, and the experience was beneficial to all. Our Preparatory Visual Art Exhibition show- cased work by every learner, and was a highlight on our calendar.
