To do that we need to get “real” in education. It is imperative that we provide ongoing, authentic learning opportunities to our students.” – Steve Revington Brain research has long advocated a multi-sensory approach to teaching and learning, with the pursuit of meaningful tasks, a variety of skills and real world applications as optimal to an engaging and meaningful education. At Parklands College we are proud to offer a world class 21st Century educational offering which has at its core the best practice of developing critical thinkers, creative agents, effective communicators, purposeful collaborators and responsible citizens. Intellectual skills are balanced with the emotional, physical and spiritual development creating a powerful combination that leads to a broad outlook and positive self- awareness. This worthy education inspires children to life-long learning and a yearning to continue to grow and discover. Children are challenged to acquire self-leadership, take initiative and accept their responsibility towards creating a better tomorrow. Our Director of Technology, Richard Knaggs, was recently invited to address an international audience at the Apple Leadership Conferences in Denmark and Iceland to present our school’s vision and embodiment of authentic learning experiences. I was privileged to attend these events and gained a deeper insight into international trends and the like-minded pedagogical approaches of experts from the United States of America, United Kingdom, India, Denmark and Iceland. I am proud to be a part of this esteemed institution where an ongoing journey of innovation and discovery of the global competencies is so evident. With their innate tools of curiosity and wonder, your child is encouraged to navigate a learning environment which allows them to break through all glass ceilings of thought, embrace new challenges and create endless possibilities. We look forward to embarking on our 2018 educational adventure. I extend my sincere gratitude to all stakeholders who have embraced this philosophy and continue to ensure that Parklands remains at the forefront of education. Lorraine Roth 1 www.parklands.co.za
