Magazine 2017

“Why, it’s simply impassible! Alice: Why, don’t you mean impossible? Door: No, I do mean impassible. Nothing’s impossible!” It seems particularly apt to begin with the words from the classic novel, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ , the inspiration for our College Production this year. All possibilities begin with the first step into an adventure. The 2017 educational journey has been marked by brave ventures into unchartered realms in the academic, cultural and sporting arenas. Peering through the looking glass, we have observed with delight as our learners have explored a world of wonder, taking on the role of linguists, mathematicians, digital enthusiasts, artists, musicians and sportsmen. “Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.” The pathway through Wonderland is marked with the stepping stones of imagination, creativity and innovation. Signposts lead to unimaginable literary riches, which provide the foundation for educational excellence and unleash a lifelong relationship with literature. In their exploration of the digital world, learners are encouraged to be “curiouser and curiouser”. They are challenged to develop their programming and problem solving skills within the classroom, and respond to real life situations with the use of technology. Along the pathway there are refreshing opportunities for participation in festivals, sports fixtures, eisteddfods and special events, creating a sense of collegial unity, camaraderie and sportsmanship. “One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth the doing is what we do for others.” We have embraced numerous outreach initiatives with a strong sense of citizenship and an inherent responsibility towards the livelihood of others. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for the spirit of benevolence and generosity in response to our monthly collections and charity drives. The Preparatory journey is enriched and made possible by the cast of characters surrounding our children in this multi-faceted environment. We welcome this opportunity to reflect on best practice and our very special teachers who work tirelessly to foster the educational tools of potential. As the Grade Six learners prepare to enter a new Wonderland, we extend the following words of encouragement to them: Don’t be scared to go down the rabbit hole – be ready to try new experiences. A little curiosity can go a long way. Advice can come from unexpected places, like from a caterpillar. Don’t be hesitant to follow your own advice, though. You learn better when surrounded by a cast of characters: parents, family, teachers, friends. Hold on to your dreams. The Queen says, “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast. Paging through this magazine will enable a glimpse into our Preparatory Wonderland.
