This enables them to make insightful decisions about their study paths and future careers. Guest speaker from Varsity Abroad - 24 March Varsity Abroad is an organisation that assists learners to apply to international universities, with a niche focus on Ivy League schools in the USA. We were pleased to welcome Wendy, who is the founder of Varsity Abroad, to Parklands College to speak to the Grade 11 learner body. During this presentation, the Grade 11s learnt more about what international universities consider when reviewing applications from international students, and how Varsity Abroad assists learners to meet these expectations to the best of their ability. As we have a number of learners who are considering international study, this detailed information session provided them with a platform to ask questions and gain clarity with regards to the application process. Guest speakers from Imfundo Abroad - 10 March Infundo Abroad is an organisation that specialises in assisting students to study across the globe, having ties with tertiary institutions in the United Kingdom, United States of America, and Australia to name a few. They advise students every step of the way, right until enrolment at the prospective international university. We were fortunate that their presentation to our Grade 11 learners coincided with a visit from recruitment representatives from the following international institutions: University of Portsmouth, Edinburgh Napier University, Plymouth University, and Nottingham Trent University. Their presentations were warmly received, and the representatives reported that they were impressed by the overwhelming interest they received. A number of learners also welcomed the news that the standard of education they have received during their school years in South Africa stands them in good stead when studying abroad. Counsellor’s Meeting with Four Ivy League Universities - 13 September The School Counsellor attended Counsellor’s meeting with representatives from Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell and Columbia University in the United States. At the meeting we were provided with detailed information about study, admission and scholarship opportunities at their respective universities. We look forward to having representatives from these universities meet with our learners in the near future. Guest speaker from Stanford University - 12 August It was an honour to have a representative from Stanford University, one of the top research and teaching universities in the world, visit our campus. Learners who were interested in learning more about tertiary study opportunities at Stanford University attended a presentation offered by Olufemi Ogundele, the Assistant Dean of Admission for Diversity Outreach. One of our past learners is currently studying at Stanford University, and we are excited to have established an ongoing relationship with this university. 147 www.parklands.co.za
