Magazine 2017

Parklands College is the first school in South Africa to use the Movitae App. 2017 saw us introduce and implement this resource for the Secondary dancers. The Movitae App is designed by dancers, for the dance industry as an educational resource. Privacy and content control are central to the architecture of the App. A wonderful tool for learners to review their dancing, recap or learn choreography if they were absent. Movitae is an international platform for dancers to connect and communicate with other dancers in a safe and controlled environment. In the first quarter the Grade 12 dancers' choreographic examination was held. All four of our Grade 12 dancers, Erin Matthews, Daniella Mizrachi, Niamh Moriarty and Zintle Mayaphi were awarded Distinctions for their dramatic and inspiring choreographies, Redemption of the Human Spirit and Broken Home by an external examining panel from the WCED. In the second quarter, the ballet dancers from Grades 3-11 prepared and participated in the RAD Ballet awards and examinations. Our dancers gained valuable knowledge and experience from being assessed by highly skilled and trained examiners. The ISTD Modern and Tap exams were held in the fourth quarter, as were the Medal Tests. Our budding ballerinas in the Pre-Primary faculty got to perform beautifully in the annual end of the year concert. I would like to thank my two wonderful colleagues, Alida Tromp and Candice Holder for nurturing our dancers to develop to their full potential, and for their amazing choreographic and organisational skills. We look forward to an action packed 2018 and we will continue to foster the love for dance within our learners at Parklands College.
