They also entertained the crowd at each and every fixture with an exciting brand of running rugby while showcasing the unique playing structures and style of play that all players bought into. The U12/13 boys also grew tremendously as a team and as friends while displaying high urgency levels and delivering out- standing support play during matches. This team won all their weekly league matches which included a massive win over Elkanah House, 52 - 0. They also recorded great wins against highly respected U/13A rugby teams during the Saturday rugby outings. U/14 SEAHAWKS Our Seahawks team is a very young but enthusiastic team in the developing stages with regards to learning rugby and the rules that go with it. Although the results did not go the boys way, there was definitely progress to be seen, especially in their last two matches of the quarter where the boys' just narrowly lost to Table View High 17 - 12 and then again to JG Meiring 20 - 7. In the latter game, our Seahawks dominated with possession and territory but just missed being able to execute and put points on the board. U/16 VIPERS Vipers started their season at the West Coast Rugby Festival, where they played a very strong Edgemead High. Trailing 12 - 5 at the break, the Vipers turned up the heat and won the match 22 - 17 in dramatic fashion. From there onwards the brand of rugby the boys played was a spectacle for all to see. In their last match against JG Meiring the boys just lost out, but all their matches thus far, whether they have won or lost, have been very closely fought affairs and this team has competed extremely well in the Northerns league. Ebube Anazodo made it into the final round at the WP Rugby School Trials, which is a great achievement. 1ST XV PREDATORS This year's U/19 Predators played in some memorable games and although the results did not go our way, certain games come to mind with regards to entertainment value. Trailing 29 - 5 at halftime against Fairbairn College the Predators showed their determination and fought back to almost win on the last movement of the game, where Sija Maqeda was held up over the try line before the final whistle went and the boys went down 32 - 30. Another such game was against Table View High where the boys narrowly missed the win with four tries apiece and just went down 29 - 31. We also took part in the prestigious Wynberg Boys’ rugby festival and played top schools like Bishops 3rds and the hosts Wynberg 3rds. This was really good growth for the boys where they learned so much. Ian Kitwanga will be the first representative for the college to be selected for the WP U/18 Craven Week team in July this year - a fantastic achievement. SOCCER BOYS’ SOCCER We started the season on a high and beat Table View High by 4 goals to 1. The next three games were tougher with the team losing to Milnerton, Edgemead and Fairmont High. Even though we lost the games, the boys showed their talent and motivation. There were missed chances in all three games which led them to a new focus on taking those opportunities and converting them to points. The U/16 boys Soccer team started the season off well. The team has a large number of players and attendance is high. The boys are motivated and excited and won their first match against Elkanah 5 - 0. Although they were then taught a little humility by Table View High (we lost 2 - 1), they went on to build a mammoth score against CBC, beating them 9 - 1. Great goals were scored by Nicolas Papavasilopoulos and Vuyo Kakaza. Thato Lucas has done well as Captain to keep the boys working together as a team. The new alias for the U/14A soccer boys team is: The Headstrong Warriors. Captain Marcelino Pinto has been proving his position over and over again in every game, displaying amazing ball sense and excellent strategic thinking. It has been such an inspiring season seeing each player evolve and overcome their challenges. From observing our goalkeeper, Cameron Edworthy’s growing defensive skills, to watching Noah Kemp and Dylan Hutton perform some great ball- handling plays, to seeing spirited Thor Hambly-Nuss keep everyone positive in the face of adversities and having a laugh, it becomes evident that a lot of improvement has taken place. Our season started off on a very positive note (3 - 2 win against Fairmont High School). We achieved a victorious outcome in our home-played match against CBC (2 - 1). Overall, it has been a good season of soccer. The team members hold their heads high where other teams would have lost all hope and have managed to have fun in the face of adversity, while also enjoying victories where the odds have not been in their favour. The U/14B boys soccer team pulled through to have an amazing soccer season. Many of the boys showed their hidden talents during practices and matches while others improved their skills. Captain Nicholas Duffield and Vice Captain Henry Osoro helped to lead the boys to victory. GIRLS’ SOCCER Girls soccer has grown in leaps and bounds over the last three years. The girls have shown great enthusiasm and the numbers have increased 115 www.parklands.co.za
