INTERNATIONAL
TOUR
Twenty four of our students could recently count
themselves most fortunate to be sent by their gener-
ous parents on a wonderful tour of Amsterdam and
Paris in September this year.
After landing at Schiphol International Airport our
students spent two days in Amsterdam, visiting the
Rijksmuseum, the Anne Frank House, theVan Gogh
Museum and taking a cruise on the canal, with some
shopping in between.
Then, after arriving at Charles De Gaulle Interna-
tional Airport, Paris, from Schipol, we had an exciting
trip on a crowded Paris Metrorail bus and ascended
the Eiffel Tower to the very top. Ensconced in a quaint
and charming hotel in the very centre of Paris, on
the famous Boulevard St Michel, we then proceeded
through the remaining six days to visit the Musee
D’Orsay, the Avenue Champs Elysees up to the Arc
De Triomphe, the Louvre, the Notre Dame Cathedral,
Les Invalides, a boat trip on the Seine, and a day trip
to the Gardens of Versailles. (with quite a bit shop-
ping in between!) The evenings were spent wandering
the streets of Paris, watching the street artists and
musicians, culminating in Parklands College dancing in
the moonlight in front of an illuminated Notre Dame
Cathedral.
The tour required a certain advanced level of ma-
turity and co-operation from the students as it is no
easy thing to move as a group of twenty seven people
around international airports and especially in Paris on
the busses and trains, as well as in the museums. We
are happy to say that our wonderful students rose to
the occasion admirably and we are very proud of them.
We arrived back in South Africa in absolute awe of
the history and art of the two famous cities and yet
very glad to be home in our own beautiful, spacious
country!
