Duration: Full Time for 1 year.
Admission Requirements: National Senior Certificate (NCS) or equivalent, plus a minimum of 40% for English
Articulation Options: After obtaining a higher certificate and meeting the admission requirements, you can apply to further your studies in a related diploma qualification e.g. Grade R Diploma or pursue an entry-level position. A higher certificate is a skills-based qualification that focuses on providing an applicant with very specific abilities in a particular field.

The Occupational Certificate: Early Childhood Development has been designed to meet the needs and interests of the early childhood development sector in a variety of settings and contexts with an inclusive focus on education, health and safety issues, amongst others.

In order to meet the needs at early childhood development level, it is important to be able to identify and recognise competent early childhood development practitioners who are able to work in centre-based and non-centre-based early childhood development settings.
We provide on campus practical training experiences that ensures that our ECD practitioners are continuously supported in their development and growth whilst allowing for optimal training quality.
Formative and summative assessments for all Unit Standards will be conducted and collated by Parklands College Further Education. Students will be required to complete a Portfolio of Evidence, work integrated learning (WIL) and a final examination.

This will take place in our on-site registered pre-primary – Christopher Robin Pre-primary. Students will be guided by the teacher/mentors on how to set up a stimulating learning learning programme, providing a safe, happy and healthy environment in which to thrive. Students will be given the opportunity to enrich their experience in a Reception year classroom by planning, preparing and implementing numeracy, literacy and life skills activities for the children.
