Directors Message

Parklands College Directors Werner Roth, Lorraine Roth and Richard Knaggs

Life by nature is a work in progress, ever changing and challenging the inner most core of what we believe to be important.  Although the world continues to change, the basic needs of children remain the same.  It is necessary for parents and schools to reinforce this shared ambition which is to create successful adults whose values will ultimately underpin their actions.  The aim of education is to prepare young people to be socially just and willing to serve with dignity, respect and honour whilst remaining task oriented and centred.

Education is also a vital ingredient in promoting a sense of identity, extending values, bridging the cultural divide, promoting understanding and tolerance between different people and building social cohesion.  We need to continuously change education in order to keep up with the changes in society and the world. In these turbulent times, he who learns most… wins and in today’s knowledge based world, education is the only sustainable basis for progress and prosperity.

Learning takes predominance over teaching where resident knowledge has to give way to evolving wisdom, and as a 21st century school, we strive to teach less and learn more.   Today’s learners are acquiring knowledge differently, however, this knowledge needs to be channelled under the guidance of enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, who are led by resourceful and compassionate principals who in turn are supported by a very high calibre of staff.  We continue to promote new competencies whilst remaining focused on core skills which include critical and creative thinking, teamwork, social and life skills, together with the ability to adapt and continue learning all through life in a changing environment thereby creating more opportunities for excellence.

tableviewOur work in progress turns thirty in 2010!  How the years have simply vanished but it is with confidence that I can say that we have positively touched the lives of thousands of children and continue to do so as we build opportunities for each learner to create a successful present whilst working towards a brilliant future.  A successful school such as this one requires the involvement, commitment and dedication of every role player: learners, parents, educators, principals and the Board.  Thank you to each and every one of you for making this school what it is and for contributing towards the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place here.  This is only possible with ‘one heartbeat and many minds’.
