‘Cool to be Me’
We would like to inform you of a very exciting life skills programme entitled ‘Cool to be Me’ that your children will be involved in for an hour a week this term. This experiential course is designed to build self esteem, self worth and self respect in children through the use of games, group discussions, role playing, music and creative expression.
The outline of the programme is as follows:
1. Who am I? [Students begin to build a deeper vision of who they are.]
2. How important am I? [Students begin to understand that worth is a birth right.]
3. How important is everyone else? [Students explore diversity and respect.]
4. Where do I fit in? [Students find their individual place within the group.]
5. How do I create my life? [Students focus on the relationship between responsibility, choices, consequences and feelings.]
6. How do I reach my full potential? [Students begin to understand how to unleash their full potential.]
7. It is cool to be me! [This final session integrates all that has been learnt and discovered.]
This programme has been successfully completed by a number of schools in the Western Cape including Springfield, SACS, Bridgehouse, Western Province and the International School of Cape Town. It integrates well with the life skills curriculum and deals with many topical issues such as bullying and peer pressure. According to statistics from the course, 84% of the participants felt better equipped to make good choices in their lives after completing the CBTM programme; 62% felt that it had helped to reduce peer pressure in their grade and 59% felt that it had reduced bullying.
We are confident that it will be of enormous benefit to our students. The cost of said course is R330 and will be debited from your account if you wish your child to participate in the programme.
There will be a parent information session on Wednesday 14 July at 18:00 in the auditorium. Please RSVP electronically whether you will be attending the information session and whether you would like your child to attend this course.
Kind regards
